Before Departure

Health changes before departure

Let us know if your health or medications change before you depart on your trip, or if you are awaiting further testing/test results, your coverage may be at risk.

Coverage and Exclusions

Familiarize yourself with your policy wording to understand what you're covered for and any exclusions in the policy:

  • Limitations on coverage when you visit a country/region impacted by a Travel Advisory warning;
  • Exclusions relating to the consumption/misuse of alcohol or non-compliance with prescription medications;
  • Rules on high risk activities, pregnancy, and stability requirements for any treatment of pre-existing conditions.

Carry a copy of your wallet card

Print out a copy of your wallet card to keep with you at all times while travelling. When you need emergency medical attention, refer to your wallet cards 24-hour number.

Accuracy of Personal Information

Does any of your personal information contain incorrect information such as the wrong date of birth, or wrong address? Let us know immediately by calling 1-888-508-0077 (mt).

Verify Trip Dates

It is crucial that your actual trip dates match those on your insurance policy. If your departure date and return date change, make sure that it's reflected on your policy. If you neglect to update your policy with accurate trip dates, your policy may become void.

Change Trip Dates

It's easy to change the trip dates on your policy, just contact our office at 1-888-508-0077 (mt) or send us an e-mail at info@myinsurancestore.ca with your contact information so we can confirm your new travel dates. There is no fee to change your policy information before it begins but once the policy becomes effective the dates cannot be changed.

Pre-existing Medical Conditions

Please familiarize yourself with your policy's pre-existing stability periods after age 69 on all plan designs for 180, 120, 90, 60, 30, or under 30 days for travel protection. To be covered for your pre-existing conditions which are based on stability conditions after age 69 your medical condition and treatment or recommendations for necessary medical treatment (usually need to be done before you leave) must be exactly the same during the stability time period before your trip which corresponds to your travel plan design. If you're unsure, call us as we would be happy to give you a clear understanding for a worry free trip.

Cancel your Policy

If you wish to cancel your policy and receive a refund in full, please contact us at 1-888-508-0077 prior to the effective date of your policy. We cannot issue a full refund on policies that have begun and there is no refund available on Multi-trip annual plans once they are in effect. We do require a request to be made in writing to cancel your policy, and no fees apply.

After Departure

Medical Assistance

IN AN EMERCENCY and prior to seeking medical assistance it is extremely important that you call the insurance company assistance centers toll-free number located on your wallet card before seeking treatment, or as soon as your are physically able. Be sure to carry your Wallet Cards with you at all times.

Extend your Policy

To extend your policy while you are away call us at 1-888-508-0077 (mt) up to 3 business days prior to your current policy expiring. We may be able to extend your policy provided you have not had or intend to make a claim.

If you have had a claim, special approval from the insurance provider may be required to extend your policy, and there is a risk that an extension my be denied if you've had a serious change to your health.

Return Home Early

If you return home early without making a claim you may qualify for a refund. We will require proof indicating the date you returned. Acceptable documents are customs or border crossing documents, flight boarding passes, credit card receipts, etc., and must show your name, location and date.

Administrative fees, minimum refund amounts and limits to how long you have to apply for a refund may apply.

Temporary Return Home

If you need to temporarily return home at any time during your trip - Please call our office at 1-888-508-0077 (mt) to notify us prior to returning. We can advise on the rules surrounding interrupting your coverage.
